Scrooge

Ebenezer Scrooge is the main character from Charles Dickens’s classic novella A Christmas Carol (1843).

Character Summary

Scrooge is a wealthy but miserly old man who despises Christmas and everything associated with generosity and joy. He’s known for his famous phrase, “Bah! Humbug!”, which he uses to dismiss anything sentimental or festive.

The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (Future) – shows him a grim future where he dies alone and unloved.

What legacy are you leaving behind?

Who will be sad when you die?

On the surface, it’s about the people you’ve touched — family, friends, pets, clients, students, even strangers who’ve felt your kindness.

But spiritually, the question really asks:

“Whose life carries the imprint of my love?”

Those who will feel your absence are the ones whose souls you’ve brushed with compassion, laughter, or truth.

It might be one person you helped through heartbreak, a client you guided through grief, or even a rescue animal that found comfort in your energy.

It’s okay — and honest — to acknowledge that not everyone is mourned. Some people cause deep wounds, and their passing doesn’t instantly erase that hurt.

That doesn’t make you unkind for noticing it. It makes you real.

When a person lives in a way that pushes love away, they’re already living in isolation long before physical death. It’s sad. It made me really start to examine myself and what impact I will leave behind when it’s my time. What will you leave behind? Will you be missed and remembered for making such a beautiful impact on this world and those that you met along the way? That’s what really matters!
